Prayer Team Update — November 17-21

Several More Elsengg Are Trusting Jesus!
Monday, November 17
Scott and Natasha Flaugher minister among the Elsengg people of Asia Pacific, and Carolyn and Rhys Pinkley minister from the USA. “Rejoice with us that several more Elsengg friends have testified that they are trusting Jesus: Rosmina, Angsalma, Ina, Alfin, Yanto [and the Flaughers’ daughter Remy]! Please continue to be in prayer for all the new believers here and that God would protect them from false teaching.” Pray as the Elsengg people learn how to read and write in their language and learn how to “worship the Lord in song and prayer.” Pray for the team as they prepare “Phase 2” Bible lessons for new believers and distribute more Kulumi devices [solar audio players] containing the chronological Bible lessons.

Pray for Evangelistic Bible Teaching in West Africa
Tuesday, November 18
Aaron and Amy, along with co-workers Guy and Keyla and Lesley, minister among the “G” people of West Africa. It has been challenging to continue the chronological Bible teaching because of bad weather, a funeral and a ritual animal sacrifice in the town centre. The team was encouraged, however, when they resumed lessons and “a good crowd of [29] adults came” to each session. One man has been especially encouraging as he is “one of the few faithful who regularly attend,” and “it seems this guy does not want to miss a single word from God’s Word.” Pray that God will continue to work in this man’s heart. Pray that others will begin attending faithfully like this man so they can hear the whole Story, not just pieces of the Story.

A Roadblock to Accepting the Gospel
Wednesday, November 19
Paul and Ellen Swenson minister among the Tanguat people of Papua New Guinea. In this region, as in much of the world, one of the biggest “roadblocks” to understanding and believing the gospel is the idea that a person can be saved by his or her works. As the people in outreach villages “A” and “M” near the end of the chronological Bible teaching, pray that they will “comprehend what God has done for them and that salvation is by grace through faith and not by works. Pray for our team as we disciple believers, that we would clearly show them that a relationship with our heavenly Father is a relationship and any ‘works’ we do is only out of thankfulness for all He has done.”

Translating the Books of Luke and John
Thursday, November 20
Jonathan and Heidi Bamford minister among Isnag people of the Philippines and are translating the Bible for the Southern Isnag people. “Heidi and I sent the back-to-English copy of the book of John to JJ, our consultant who is in Italy. When he has completed the pre-check, we will do additional comprehension checking … to make sure it is ready. Please pray that [this month] we will be able to do multiple comprehension checks of the book of Luke and the book of John. Please pray that we will find the right comprehension testers for each check and that the result will be a clear and accurate translation.”

What the Uruwa People Believe About Death
Friday, November 21
Nathan and Kelsey Brendle minister among the Uruwa people of Papua New Guinea. Praise God that their family’s transition to living in the village went very well. The team is focusing on building relationships and learning the Uruwa culture and language. “Please pray for Kelsey to find consistent language help and language hours.” Pray she would have wisdom and energy in balancing homeschooling and language learning. A recent death in the community reminded the team that they have much to learn about the Uruwa culture and language. “Pray our team would learn this language well and quickly.”
