Shaun and Mel

Shaun Humphreys

Chief Executive Officer and Director of Indigenous Ministries

Shaun Humphreys is the Chief Executive Officer of Ethnos Canada and Director of Indigenous Ministries. Raised in Paraguay, he saw firsthand how the gospel can transform a community. In 2003, Shaun and his wife, Melanie, moved to Paraguay, where they spent 16 years learning the language and culture of the Nivaclé people, developing Bible lessons and helping establish a group of believers who now share the gospel within their own communities. The Humphreys returned to Canada in 2019 to serve in leadership at the Durham campus. Shaun brings field experience, cultural understanding and a deep desire to see churches established among people who have not yet heard.

Martin Lamb

Director of Public Relations, Executive Leadership Team

Martin Lamb serves on Ethnos Canada’s Leadership Team, drawing on years of experience in ministry development, public relations and engagement with Canadian churches. Having grown up in Papua New Guinea as the son of missionaries, Martin developed an early awareness of Unreached People Groups and their need to hear the gospel. He later served for 14 years as Development Director with Gospel for Asia, supporting ministry across the Indian subcontinent, before returning to serve with Ethnos Canada. Martin is passionate about helping the Church in Canada understand the urgency of global missions and encouraging more believers to take their part in the completion of the Great Commission.

Matt Gunter

Training Leadership Team, Executive Leadership Team

Matt Gunther serves on Ethnos Canada’s Leadership Team with a strong desire to prepare the next generation of cross-cultural missionaries. As part of the training program in Durham, Matt and his wife, Joan, have equipped students in language learning, Bible teaching and the practical realities of living and serving in remote settings. For Matt, training goes beyond developing skills. It is an opportunity to disciple future missionaries toward a closer walk with Jesus and Spirit-led service. His leadership is motivated by the thousands of language groups that still have little or no opportunity to hear the gospel and by the need for more workers.

TIM-AND-KATHY

Tim Whatley

Executive Leadership Team, GMA Board

Tim Whatley brings a lifetime of cross-cultural experience to Ethnos Canada’s Leadership Team. Raised in Asia-Pacific as the son of missionaries, he saw church planting firsthand as his parents helped pioneer church-planting work among the Lauje people. Tim and his wife, Kathy, have served with Ethnos Canada since 1995. They helped pioneer ministry among the Moi people, being on the team that made first contact in 2000. After seven years in field leadership, Tim returned to Canada in 2010 to serve as CEO. He now serves on the GMA Board, helping provide international leadership across a network of affiliated ministries. He also encourages missionaries and engages Canadian churches in global missions.
